ASHEVILLE — Kamm’s Frozen Custard Shop in the Grove Arcade celebrates its third anniversary Saturday by continuing its tradition of introducing a new flavor. For 2005, the new flavor developed by owners, Jim and Sally Kammann, is a lush honey vanilla, using locally produced honey from The Spicewood Farm. Free servings of the new frozen custard will be available between 2 and 5 p.m. Saturday. Award-winning beekeeper and beekeeping teacher Chris Mathis of The Spicewood Farm will be on hand to help unveil the latest frozen custard creation. A demonstration hive of working bees will be on hand as well, with Mathis giving short talks throughout the afternoon on how beekeeping works and honey is made. The Spicewood Farm honey, which has won Best of Show in the past two consecutive years at the North Carolina Mountain State Fair, is available most Saturdays at the Grove Arcade’s open air Portico Market, at the Grove Corner Market and online at www.TheSpicewoodFarm.com. Since opening as the first tenant in the historic Grove Arcade in August 2002, Kamm’s Custard Shop has served its sweets, made fresh daily using the highest quality ingredients and a special freezing process.
